Scientific communication is experiencing new possibilities of widespread diffusion since new technologies of communication are now available for everybody. This revolution is mainly based on internet with the help of other platforms such as satellite that is becoming progressively less expensive. Historically one of the first breakthrough was just in scientific production of reproductive medicine when Robert Edwards founded Reproductive Biomedicine Online.

The possibility of reading scientific papers on personal computers everywhere at any moment together with the impressive speed with which papers were pubblished represented a real progress. Web sites of journals and scientific societies are becaming the space of quick , widespread and interactive debates . Also congresses , meetings and courses are now possible without the physical presences of partecipants as recently demonstrated by the recent virtual event on surgical gynecological course organized by Souzanne Mubarak Center on Women Health and a UK university.

In this case satellite and internet were used synergically considering that high speed internet facilities are not available with the same extension in all countries. Another experience conducted during the last Meeting of MSRM in Florence demonstrated that it was feasible to load presentations in internet and after one hour the same speaker (Luca Gianaroli at that moment) could answer on the web the email questions sent by virtual partecipants to the event. Now the direct webcasting without any delay is also feasible with a certain ease and reasonable costs. Logical consequences of these advancements are the massive virtual and interactive partecipation to scientific events with a significative reduction of costs and increase in the number of partecipants. On the other hand we are actually realizing a certain decrease of partecipation to some scientific event not only for economic reasons but also for the less and less time doctors and biologists are ready to invest. Naturally the direct partecipation to usual forms of congresses and course will be always important for personal interaction. However adding these new technologycal opportunities is probably wellcome by everybody.

This MSRM Newsletter wishes to open some of these possibilities thanks also to your interactive partecipation (link ). We also wish to thank Real Communication, the company that is assisting us for the technologies involved in this new enterprise.
